Head Coach Colton Frey

Coach Colton Frey is in his first year at Bridgewater College. With 8 years of coaching experience, Frey has worked with athletes 8 years old - college athletes. He has coached both men and women, most recently coaching for 3 years as the varsity coach at Broadway High School.

Frey got his start in volleyball at the local park in his hometown of Lancaster, PA when his dad taught him to float serve before his first ever volleyball tryout as a freshman at Hempfield High School. His dad is still his biggest fan and watches almost every game that he coaches. After high school, Frey attended Eastern Mennonite University where he played Libero/DS for four years and really found his voice for coaching and nack for making those around him reach their fullest potential. During his time at EMU, the program reached heights of a #7 national ranking.

Following his time at EMU as an athlete, Frey began teaching 2nd grade in Harrisonburg City Public Schools and coaching both at EMHS with JV girls and at EMU as the assistant coach for the men's program. Frey received his Master's of Education from James Madison University in 2022 and became a Behavior Specialist in Rockingham County Public Schools helping to supervise some of the tier 3 behavior support programs.

Frey is passionate about coaching because it is a beautiful marriage between his love of classroom teaching and sport. Coaching has allowed him to mentor young people and push them to be the best versions of themselves while teaching life lessons through the sport he loves. Frey is a firm believer in education and its value to young minds. He knows that culture precedes success and is dedicated to knowing and being known by his athletes.
